# Account closure and ongoing support for Somerset Council

###### The customer

Somerset Council, the unitary authority created by the amalgamation of the Somerset Districts and County in April 2023, chose Moore Optima, a subsidiary of Moore Insight, to support the Council’s finance operations.
###### The challenges
---
Our involvement began when we were brought in to assist the former district councils to close their final sets of accounts last year, and it has subsequently been retained to help support and manage the external audit process.
The Somerset team required support due to staff transitioning into new roles with the new Somerset Council, leaving gaps in key skill areas.
The solution
---
With the help of our team at Moore Optima, South Somerset District Council successfully closed its final set of accounts, without having to resort to costly agency workers or lengthy and expensive recruitment processes.
The result
---
The success of this scalable and responsive accountancy support system of expert-level human resources led the newly formed Somerset Council to choose us to provide support in its finance business partnering function.
We are now providing ongoing support one of the Council's business areas and cultural services, where it was struggling to recruit suitably skilled and experienced agency staff.
