Options appraisal for West London Waste Authority
The customer
The West London Waste Authority (WLWA) is a waste disposal authority that is responsible for handling the disposal of different types of waste collected from households across six London boroughs: Brent, Harrow, Ealing, Hounslow, Hillingdon, and Richmond upon Thames.
The challenge
The authority currently operates on the Unit4 Milestone 6 system, which will reach its end of life in June 2025. After this date, the system will no longer receive support or security updates, rendering it obsolete.
WLWA needs to implement a new finance system that offers enhanced functionality and integration capabilities to continue business as usual.
The solution
Our team conducted a comprehensive analysis of the authority’s key challenges, operational constraints, reporting requirements, and core processes.
We established two sets of evaluation criteria for all potential solutions in the systems marketplace, using this assessment We systematically assessed each solution against the criteria, producing a refined shortlist of viable options for WLWA.
We developed cost estimates and conducted a comparative analysis of the shortlisted solutions. This evaluation considered factors such as integration complexity, additional planning, budgeting and forecasting costs, implementation challenges, upgrade complexity, and user learning curve.
The result
WLWA now has an evidence-based shortlist of the finance systems that meet its business-critical requirements. These include estimated costs and a comparison of each shortlisted system across the key themes requested by the authority.
They can now use this detailed analysis to inform their internal business case and determine the next steps for their finance system.
