Options appraisal for The National Lottery Community Fund

Funded by National Lottery players, the National Lottery Community Fund is a non-departmental public body that allocates over £600 million annually to enhance UK communities.  

These grants support diverse projects that help people live healthier lives, benefit young people, improve community infrastructure, tackle climate change, and aid individuals facing significant challenges. 

The challenge 

For the past two decades, The National Lottery Community Fund has relied on an on-premise finance system that has become outdated and inadequate.  

The lack of seamless integration across the system landscape forces the team to endure manual processes and inefficient workarounds to complete end-to-end tasks. 

The solution

The National Lottery Community Fund requested a systems agnostic market analysis and options appraisal of the systems suitable for their requirements. 

Our consultants analysed their main challenges, limitations, reporting needs, and core processes. We created two sets of criteria to evaluate potential solutions and then assessed the market options, resulting in a shortlist of suitable systems. 

Next, we estimated costs using publicly available data and compared the shortlisted solutions based on factors like integration complexity, planning, budgeting, implementation challenges, upgrade difficulty, and user learning curve. 

The result

As a result, The National Lottery Community Fund now has an evidence-based shortlist of financial systems that align with their critical business requirements.  

This shortlist includes estimated costs and a comparative analysis of each system across key themes, as requested by the client.  

The National Lottery Community Fund can use this detailed analysis to inform their internal business case and guide their decision-making process for the next steps in selecting a finance system.
